
Nathaniel Hackmann
Nathaniel Hackmann has emerged as an internationally renowned actor and singer, performing some of the most demanding roles on stage and alongside many of the world’s leading orchestras. He is currently starring on Broadway as Biff Tannen in Back to the Future: The Musical at the Winter Garden Theatre. Hackmann’s Broadway credits include portraying both Jean Valjean and Javert in Les Misérables, as well as the titular roles in Jekyll and Hyde and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He has also made notable appearances in the internationally televised BBC Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall, performing as Curly in Oklahoma! with John Wilson conducting, and as Gaby in On the Town for Leonard Bernstein’s 100th Birthday Celebration.
His favourite recordings include Steve in Paint Your Wagon, Curly in Oklahoma!, and Billy Bigelow in Carousel—all available on major music streaming platforms. Some of his most cherished stage roles include both Gaston and the Beast in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Quasimodo in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and various antagonists in the works of Frank Wildhorn and Stephen Sondheim.
In the realm of opera, Hackmann is an alumnus of the prestigious Merola Opera Program at the San Francisco Opera. He has also performed with Virginia Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and San Francisco Lyric Opera, among others. On the concert stage, he has appeared with the John Wilson Orchestra, Sinfonia of London, Hong Kong Symphony, San Francisco Opera Orchestra, Springfield Symphony, Midland Symphony Orchestra, Sun Valley Opera, Central Michigan Orchestra, Northern Arizona Symphony, and Northwest Indiana Symphony.
Nathaniel Hackmann holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Central Michigan University.
