Written for the 37th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, Shostakovich’s bubbling Festival Overture is full of unapologetic merriment and embodies a grand celebration.

Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto is innovative, featuring one continuous movement in which the three sections are linked via a principal theme. This effectively displays the lyrical qualities of the cello while also exploring its virtuosic possibilities.

Stephen Scotchmer’s delightful Overture to Perth (Australia) was inspired by his holiday in Australia in December 2023. Its lively orchestration perfectly captures the spirit and vitality of Perth and is an eclectic mix of Australian sea shanties and music inspired by Aboriginal culture.

Schumann’s Rhenish Symphony, written in 1850, pays homage to the River Rhine and the Rhineland region, which Schumann came to regard as home. This musical picture of the region displays Schumann’s mastery of orchestration.
